THE DAY IN PARLIAMENT

Parliament did good work yesterday, in that between the Legislative Council and the House of it passed quite a long list of Bills. The Legislative Council very materially reduced the size of its Order Paper, and the House of Bepresentatives agreed to the passage of the Veterinary Surgeons Bill, tho Lights on Vehicles Bill, the Local Elections and Polls Bill, and the Land Laws Amendment Bill. Chief interest centred on the passage- of the latter measure, its opponents, contending that it was a great mistake to part with tho national endowments. On behalf of the Government it was, maintained that the proceeds from the sal* of the endowment* could t« reihveit«a to greater advantage, and. that "there were many Crown leaseholders" who would be glad of tho chance to acquire the freehold. The House adjourned at 1.26 a.m.
