Six' other passengers received minor injuries, including broken bones, cuts, and bruises.

The potentialities of South Westland will bo studied by members of the Canterbury Progress League in a trip to be taken from Bluff on 2nd September. Special attention will be paid to a roading scheme connecting the district with Jackson's Bay, thus opening up a wide stretch of country, says "an 3xchangc. Arrangements are being made for members to be taken from Bluff by the Government steamer Tutanekai, which, after having inspected several of the lighthouses in the southern Sounds, will set the party down at Jackson's Bay. Here horses will await them and they will be taken through some of the moat beautiful country of Southern Westland. Members will have the option of coining back overland to Hokitika on horseback or of rejoining the Tutanekai at Olcuru. The trip will extend over about a fortnight.
