CANINE ARISTOCRATS
DOG SHOW OPENED.
No one, unless very deaf, can fail to locate the dog show now being held in No. 17 Harbour Board shed, under the auspices of the Wellington Kennel Club, for the approaching visitor is greeted by a part-song chorus in which can be distinguished the deep -hayings of the large dogs, the yelps and whines of the middlesized ones, and the high falsetto yaps of the little ones. Once inside the building the crescendo of sound increases, and a long vista of pen after pen, containing dogs with lengthy pedigrees, greets the eye. Canine aristocrats of all sizes and breeds are there by the score: great wolf hounds look on tho visitor with dis-i. dainful eye, and with an air that clearly indicates their superiority over mere man; a bored interest is displayed by the sporting dogs, longing to be up and doing,, while terriers of all sorts, between their frantic endeavours to try conclusions through the bars with their neighbours, have always an open eye for any paper package or bag that might contain something to "replenish a depleted larder." Toy dogs, some small enough almost for a doll's house, yap in chorus, and several proud mothers (guard with loving interest their families oi pups.
It is, in fact, the best show that the Wellington Kennel Club has ever staged, and there has been a record number of entries. The work of the judges will continue all day to-day and to-morrow, during which time the show will be open to the public. His Excellency the GovernorGeneral has signified his intention of being present this afternoon, and a large attendance of the public is expected.
