CHINESE GAMBLERS

TWENTY-NINE FINED,

Twenty-eight Chinese -who admitted being found, in a common gaminghouse in Haining street yesterday, woro each fined £2 by Mr. E. Page, S.M., itt the Magistrate's Court this morning. A twenty-ninth, who had been previously convicted for a. similar offence, was fined £3. Joe Lee Wah, who convinced tho Court that he was on the premises for the purposes of his business only, was discharged. On the application of Mr. Joll, -who appeared for all the men concerned, tho cases against Ngan Jim, aged 47, who was charged with conducting a common gaming-house at 42, Haining street, and Joe Kirn (30) and Joe Long (42), who were charged with assisting, were adjourned till next Monday. Bail of £50 was allowed in each case.
