At the Supreme Court, Norman Ernest Johnston, aged 21, on a theft charge was sentenced to three years' probation. Patrick John Jager was acquitted on the ground of insanity, of the murder of Arthur Creagh, at South Dunedin in May. Jager and Creagh were intimate friends, sharing a bedroom at a boardinghou'se. There had been no quarrel or ill-feeling. The evidence of four medical witnesses agreed that the accused was suffering from delusional insanity, ;>r.d did not realise the physical nature of the crime. He was ordered to be detained at the mental hospital.
