WEATHER IN JULY
♦ ■ SUMMARY If OR. THE MONTH. Hi. B. V. Pembertou, of the Meteorological Office, reports on the weather conditions of the past month as follows: — The rainfall during the month was 2.89 inches, or only 52 per cent, of the average, thus making the total rainfall for the first seven months of this year 22.14 inches, which is 6.74 inches below the mean of that period over previous years. There were 17 wet days during the month, the maximum fall, 0.57 inches, occurring on 25th July. Besides being a dry month, July was notable for its comparative mildness, the mean shade temperature being 48.6 degrees Fahrenheit, which is one de- * gree above the average. The mean daily range was 11.8 degrees, the maximum being reached on the 25th of the month, when the thermometer showed a temperature of 60.3 degrees. The lowest tempera- ' ture was recorded on 4th July, when 21.7 degrees were registered. There were 11 frosts during the month, five less than occurred during June; the hardest was recorded on the morning of the 29th, when the thermometer registered 23.0 degrees Fahrenheit, or 9 degrees below freezing point. The total number of hours of bright sunshine was 139 hours 47 minutes, which is 36^ hours more than the average. Thus the mean .amount of sunshine daily, was 4 hours 3.C minutes. There were only three absolutely sunless ■-. days. The average daily wind velocity exceeded that of previous years by 29 miles per hour, thus being 232 miles per hour. The highest record for a period of 24 hours was 452 miles per hour on the morning of ]6th July, while the lowest was 37 miles per hour, on 11th July. The temperature of the soil was at depths of both 1 and 3 feet lower than the average-by 1.4 degrees and 0.5 degreeH respectively. The weather for the month might gen- ; crally be described as both dry and mild.
