TOMATO GROWERS CONCERNED.
The tomato growers of Nelson drew the attention of Parliament in a petition presented in the House of Representatives yesterday to the difficult position into which the industry has been placed as a result of tho large importations, during the months of November and December, or Rarotonga-grown tomatoes. The petition states that the capital expenditure in Nelson alone in connection with the growing of tomatoes amounts to over £130,000, and that there is every possibility of tho annihilation of the whole industry unless some protection is afforded Now Zea-land-grown tomatoes early this session against the competition of late crops of tomatoes produced outside the Domin. ion at low cost by coloured labour.
