A HARDY ANNUAL

DISCUSSED BY EDUCATIONISTS.

Describing his motion as a hardy annual, Mr. F. Milner proponed that the Education Council should reiterate its conviction that it would be in the best interests of progressive education in the Dominion that the Director should pay a visit to Europe and America so as to familiarise himself with recent educational developments.

Because education dealt with imponderables and could not kliow a credit balance in hard cash, said the mover, it was neglected in the matter of sending its heads on tours abroad. Other departments were always sending their officers on trips to acquire information and newideas.

It was also -urged by several speakers that it was useless to wait till an officer was approaching .superannuation before sending him on such a trip; he ought to go while in the prime of life and capable of the active execution of new idcan.

The motion was finally passed, amended to include at least one officer besides the Director.
