THE LOCAL POSITION

A conference of representatives of the three organised Labour bodies, the Trades and Labour Council, the Alliance of Labour, and the Labour Representation Council, and representatives of the unemployed was held on Monday. Representatives of the unemployed expressed a desire to hand over their organisation to organised Labour, and as a result the Wellington Unemployed Committee was set up, with Mr. A. Cook as president and Mr. F. Cornwell as secretary. The endeavour of the committee will be to collect as much information on the subject of unemployment as possible, and with that end in view a meeting of unemployed is being held at 80, Manners street, to-morrow afternoon. It is proposed to wait on the Prime Minister (the Eight Hon. J. G. Coates) on Friday.
