(United" Presa Association.—Copyright.) (Australian-New Zealand Cable Assn.) (Received 9th June, noon.) LONDON, Bth June.
In the-House of Commons, the fact that much Russian money is coming to the help of British miners was invested with special interest by General Sir H. Page-Croft's question as to what were the working conditions of Russian coal miners. Colonel G. R. Lane-Fox, Under-See-retary for Mines, replied that the Soviet code laid down a six-hour day and forty-two hours' continuous rest a week, but it was understood that the I Russians actually worked eight, or even ten, hours a day, earning between 25s and 27s 6d a week. Therefore, as regards both wages and conditions, the Russians wore in a desperate condition compared with British miners.
