LETTER DELIVERY

COMPLAINT FROM HAT AIT AI,

The late delivery of mail matter at Hataitai is the subject of a letter written to the Editor of "The Post" by a correspondent, "Wake-up." "Only a recent arrival at Hataitai," says the writer, "I was very much surprised at the late delivery of mails. Living at Waipapa road, we have to wait until 12 o'clock, or after, for the coming's mail, and 4 o'clock for the afteroon's delivery. Surely something could be done to alter this. Other suburbs get their mail earlier; why not Hataitai?" Information gathered from' the Postal authorities when the complaint was submitted to them is to the effect that morning delivery at Hataitai after 'noon is very exceptional. Reference to the letter-carrier's daily times showed that on one day last week he finished his round at 12.15 p.m., the mail for delivery having been an unusually heavy one. On Wednesday the : und was completed at 11.15 a.m., and on Thursday at 11.45 a.m. It was pointed out that this was due to the heavy deliveries customary in the week preceding Easter. The afternoon rounds on the same days were finished at 4.15 p.m., 4.30 p.m., and 115 p.m. respectively. As a rule, residents in the district should have their afternoon letters by 4 o'clock. Probably the correspondent's residence is near the end of the carrier's round. The Postal authorities point out that someone mus* be last, _ and that heavy sortinjs for a particular district necessarily mean later delivery thaa usual.
