TITAHI BAY ROAD
REQUEST FOR WIDENING.
Contending that the present width or the road between Titahi Bay and PoxiruaiJ-larbour is inadequate to meet ,the needs of ever-increasing traffic, 54 residents of the district have petitioned the Makara County Council asking that the fence be moved: back to the correct road frontage. The request was supported by. a deputation which waited on the council at its meeting yesterday tw Ci! ain"^,.(M^ X Wi"«"ey) stated that the wxdHvof the road might be SJI \"- a f? w Places> but he intended that in the main the width was ample. He pointed out that the petition was signed by only one-third of W r/'? p'T rs > whereupon one membei of the deputation stated that if the council wanted it they could get it signed by two-thirds. Mr. Windley said that as soon as the council got the main roads in good order attention would be given to the by-roads, and no doubt the portion of road referred to would then be attended to. He promised that the council would consider the petition carefully, and said it would be referred to the Titahi Bay Progressive Association, which was also concorned in the matter. Subsequently a resolution was passed deferring the matter until inquiries have been macle as to the legal obligation of the council, and pending a visit to the locality by the councillors.
