DE LUXE THEATRE.
"As No Man Has Loved," which 1«b enjoyed such a phenomenally successful run in-New York during the past year, was. introduced te the Wellington public at the De Luke Theatre last evening. Lieutenant Nolan, a fiery-tempered youngster on duty at Fort Massac, Ohio, was lured from his true allegiance by Aaron Burr's eloquence. In a fit of temper, he uttered unpatriotic words. On trial by court-martial, he cursed the United States, and said he never wanted to see nor hear of his country again. He bitterly repented those words. The Court condemned him never again to see nor hear of the land he had forsworn. He was put on an American ship of war, and as the years passed he sailed the seas —transferred from one ship to another. Fiftyseven years passed; old age came. No man ever, uttered the world, country, home, or family in his hearing, and at his home his loyal sweetheart, Anne Bissell, pleaded with every President, from Jefferson to Lincoln, for the pardon that would bring Nolan home. She succeeded —when she was an old woman of 78, and died on the wharf while awaiting the return of her lover from exile. Many exciting happenings at; sea are portrayed in the film. There is a storm scene, and a" battle sequence tluvt veritably makes the audience gasp. The two great roles of Nalon and Anne Bissell are admirably portrayed by Kdward Hearn and Pauline Starke. A most interesting Gazette and a bright comedy also figured on the new programme. A pleasing interlude was supplied by Mr. C. O'Hagan (baritone), who sang "Glorious Devon" so spiritedly that he had to reappear, when "Friend o' Mine" was rendered with equal success. The music by the orchestra was m keeping with the season, including "The Holy City" and Masoagni's "Intermezzo. There will be a matinee screening at 2.30 on Monday.
