WASHINGTON, 12th February,
The Secretary of Labour (Mr. James J. Davis) states that the Department has confirmed the announcement made on Friday by tho Governor of Pennsylvania (Mr. Gifford Pinchot) that the anthracite strike in that State had been settled.. "The contract," states Mr. Davis, "is for five years, the wages to continue at the present level, with provision for opening up negotiations within the industry whenever s either Sl3e desires."
The strike was virtually settled on Friday afternoon, when the announcement was made that the agreement had been formally approved by the miners in joint conference at Philadelphia with the operators.
