CHRISTCHURCH WOOL SALE

PRICES REPORTED TO BE

UNEVEN,

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

CHBISTCHT7RCH, 11th Feb. The third wool sale of the season in Christchurch commenced to-night, when 7000 odd bales of a catalogue of 20,000 bales were offered. The wool was in fairly good order for this time of the season, being free of seed, but there was a big proportion of tender wool. There wag a full bench of buyers. Though the rates prevailing at the last Christchurch sale were not ■ equalled, there was an appreciation of Id per lb on Timaru prices for medium wool, and' about id on best qualities. , Prices at times were uneven, but generally the sale was spirited, particularly when big lots were offered. .Bradford provided the heaviest baying element, but the Continent and local mills (for the super wools) were prominent. America appeared little in .the competition. Less than 600 bales in the 7100 offered were passed.

The best price this evening was 19Jd for half bred. Merino and Corriedale, top prices being 19d. The sale will be resumed in the morning. .'■', ;
