KAHIKA HELD UP
DISPUTE IN THE PROVIDORING
DEPARTMENT.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, 11th February. A dispute in the providoring department of the Union Company's cargo steamer Kahika is responsible for the ship being held up at Dunedin. Trouble arose late on Wednesday afternoon, when the K;»hik» was about to sail for Napier and Gisborne. • It appears that the chief steward is under instructions to proceed to Wellington for orders. It ■is stated that the cooks and stewards objected to the transfer, and refused to sail until he . was reinstated. On Wednesday night the chief and assistant cook and one or two stewards failed to return to the ship,- and she was unable to leave her berth in consequence. The position was advanced another stage this morning, when the stokehold crew came ashore. They had not. returned up to this evening. It is stated that these men are acting in sympathy with the chief steward, consequently the Kahika is still held up indefinitely. '•'■•'.■
