EASTBOURNE AFFAIRS
The monthly meeting of the Eastbourne Borough Council was held last evening, under the chairmanship of the Mayor (Mr. H. M. Jones). The following were also present:—Councillors F. J. Laing, H. W. Holmes, S. H. Jenkinson, C. H. Andrew, and H. J. Levy.
The Wellington Education Board wrote asking when water and drainage could be expected to be installed for use at the Muritai School. A motion was carried to the effect that the council was not in a position to state when it would be able to proceed with the installation of water and drainage.
Receipts to the district fund as from Ist April to 31st December (last year's figures appearing in parentheses), totalled £6870 15s (£4291 16s fid), rates being responsible 'for £.5326 16s 9d (£3194 9s 81). Expenditure totalled £4596 0s 6d (£3771 19s 6d). For December the receipts totalled £710 16s 6d (£573 3s 10d), and expenditure £351 13s 5d (£358 3s Id).
Building permits for the same month were £1998 and for the period, Ist April to 31st December £10,913.
The Commissioner of State Forests wrote in regard to the milling of timber on the Akatarawa Eeserve, recently purchased by the Government, suggesting that milling should be carried out where timber was large enough. The council expressed itself as being in favour of milling being carried out if; done under proper supervision.
