BURGLARS WITH GELIGNITE.

CHRISTCHURCH, 3rd January. During the New Year holidays burglars entered the offices of Packer and Jones, builders and timber merchants, Churchill street, and attempted to blow up the safe. By smashing a window at the rear of the place, the intruders made their way to the manager's office. Ramming gelignite into the keyhole of the safe they made a clumsy and unsuccessful attempt to burst it open. , The only damage done to the safe was a fairly deep dent on the side and the shattering of the door handle and fittings. The discovery was made this morning when the office was reopened after the: holidays. As the office was closed since Thursday, it is not known on what night the robbers made their attempt.
