RADIO SERVICE CLUB
The Wellington Radio Service Club held its annual, smoke concert recently, Mr. F, Potter presiding. Ad<3r/!3>e» were given by Mr. Potter and Mr. Macklin (vice-president) on the assistance given to lis-t«ne>B-in in regard to the reception of distant stations, and they also referred to the club's private transmitting station, which will be in oper»tipn shorty under the management of Mr-, Maoklin. The club extended the season's greetings to all li*tener»in.
As a practical illustration of the fact that it it not necessary to damp broadcast studio* by the addition of heavy draperies, we find that the American station WJAZ h*s discarded these methods altogother and hag furnished itself with an acoustically designed studio absolutely devoid of draperies. It is understood that all obstacles in the forni of echo and nn^lue sound reflection h^ve been, successfully overcome, and thug the conclusion is warranted that damped studios, which destroy so much colour in musical tone, should be relegated' to the background, and scientific, construction called in to take precedence over out-of-date methods.
