UNSETTLED WEATHER
MAY-IMPROVE FOR HOLIDAYS.
Although prospects are somewhat doubtful for the immediate future, the outlook for the holidays at tlie end of the week is not altogether unfavourable. Tlie Director of the Meteorological Office (Mr. D. C. Bates) reports that'the westerly depression mentioned yesterday has made its appearance rattier early, but it still appears to.be only of moderate intensity. It is due to pass on Christmas Day. If j as anticipated ,at the' present time, the disturbance does not intensify, the weather should clear up by the end of tho week. In the meantime westerly winds, moderate to strong, with a southerly tendency, are to be expected northward of Napier and New Plymouth, and 'norther-lies, strong to gale at times, and backing to foutherli'es, elsewhere. 'Unsettled and cloudy weather with misty rain is probable on all the western coast and in the southern districts, and warm nnd humid conditions elsewhere. The barometcrshpws a falling tendency.
