NOT A SWITZERLAND
NEW ZEALAND'S SCENIC BEAUTY.
A New Zealander who returned from a world tour by the Maheno -this week is not in agreement with those who compare the scenic beauties of New.Zealbnd^with those of Switzerland. In fact, he thinks that New Zealand has a long T ,-ay to go before her natural beauty becomes comparable with that of the winter playgronnds of Europe. He considers that Italy is most like New Zealand from the scenic point of view. The natural beauty of this country he remarked this morning, was not evenly distributed as was the picturesque ness of Switzerland. Practically wherever one went there the vista was perfect, the features of the landscape and seascape being placed in the picture as though with studied art. Furthermore, the scenic beauties were easily accessible, as they lay along,, the main traffic routes. There was a certain amount of tussock country, somewhat similar to that of New Zealand, but the greater part of the landscape consisted of beautiful wooded slopes. The architecture also was wonderfully suited to the surroundings.
