"DESIROUS OF BIG STRIKE"
LABOUR LEADER'S CHARGE
NO TIME FOR REVOLUTIONISTS,
(ONITBD PRESS ASSOCIATION—OOPIRIOHT.) MELBOURNE, 16th September. '
Speaking at Dandenong, Mr. Charlton (Leader of the Federal Opposition), replying to Mr. Bruce's recent statements regarding tile shipping strike/., said the Labour Party had no time for those who talked revolution. The party had gone through the fiery furnace of politics and sought to obtain the consent of the majority of the people to give effect to its ideals in a constitutional manner. Those who. slandered the party by making it: appear to stand for fevolution were doing a great injustice to a vast number of the Australian people. Mr. Charlton denied Mr. Bruce's allegation 'that Mr. Garden (Leader of the Communist Party of New South Waleß) was one of the leaders of the Labour Party. Mr. Garden's Communist group opposed Labour at the last election, and was defeated because the workers wished to return members on whom they could depend to vote in a constitutional manner. Mr. Charlton declared that Mr. Bruce desired a big strike for political reasons, and had consequently refrained from taking steps which would. have averted such a strike. The Opposition was prepared to go to the country immediately. : :
