FUNEREAL OF MR. JESSEN
At Mauriceville yesterday afternoon, the funeral took place of Mr. W. A. Jesscn, one of the band of eavly settlers of that district. The late Mr. Jessen was a native of Denmark, and at the time of bis -death was 70 years of age. He came to New Zealand with his parents when' quite young, who took up their residence .at Mauricfiville. It was due to. his efforts "that one of the first butter factories in the North Island was established at Mauriceville in 1889. lie was secretary of this company, as. well as ot the Mauriceville Foresters' Lodge at thp time'of his death. The late Mr.' Jessen took a keen interest in public affairs, having been secretary and chairman of the Road Board (later merged with the Covmly Council.) He represented the "Wai'ravapfi Egg Circle in Wellington for the first three years of it? .existence, and for a period was Wellington District Secretary to the Ancient. Order of Foresters. .
