DE LUXE THEATRE
The great herds of bison which inhabit the Western lands of the American Continent are seen in the great Paramount film showing on the now programme at the De Luxe Theatre. It was soreoned last evening for the firet time to a crowded house. "The. Thundering Herd" is no ordinary Western, picture, but is a classic of the sci'pon, and.' one that will long bo remembered by those who 1 aro privileged to see it. The story tells of the slaughter of buffalo in North America by the early pioneers. Good value {or hides attracted many wagon trains tq tho Western plains, but the Indians, w}io saw their squrce of living cut off, resented the intrusion qf tho white men. Throughout the story is a delightful romance, tho thread of which is riot ■ lost for a moment in the thrilling action of the pioture. For thrills of battle, hand to hand, with pis.to.l and rifle, the picture is unexcelled. Tlie (stampede of buffaloes i§ ona of the m<jst realistic- things evor caught by the camera. A surging, hurtling mass race^. madly ncross the prairie, and. before it flees a wagon, in which is tho heroine. Ilia w&ion lurches madly over tho rough plain, tho horses, foam-ftecked, strain in terror, and on tho outskirts of the herd hover tho Redskins, waiting for a chance to strike at their human Pjey- Ja°k Holt is ideally cast as Tom Doan, a manly young Kansa? hun.ter. Raymond Hatton doe? excellent work as the piorieer hunter of the party, and Noah Boery makes the character of the brutal Randall Jett stand out in bold relief. Loia Wilson makes a charming heroine. The orchestra's overture, nioely played, under the leadership of Mr. L. D. Austin, was Rubinstem's "Russian National' Dance," and entr'acte Rachmaninoff's "Prelude." Tho incidental music played was taken from the works of Beethoven, Tschaikovski, Safranok, and other great composers. "The Thundering Herd" will be screened again this evening and during next week.
