LAST EVENfNG'B PROGRAMME
CHILDREN'S ITEMS TO-DAY,
Yesterday and last evening found very satisfactory attendance* at the Concert Chamber and Town Hall, and this evening, no doubt, the audience in the main liajl will 1 be larger again, for practically the full programme will be made up of children's items, which axe invariably a great attraction. There will be several dancing items, and a Shakespearian recitation (under 21). Yesterday afternoon the president of the society (Mr. J. W. Cave) presented to Mr. H. G-. Hall, master of the Solway School, Masterton, the shield won by the schqol in the State primary school chorus competition. Mr. Hall was also presented with the medal which is awarded to the conductor of the winning choir, The results of last evening's -finals ara as follow:—
Violin Solo (12 and under 16), "Sonata in G Minor" (PurceO).— Final: Master George-Joseph,. 106 points, i; Master S. Pomeroy, 104 points, 2; Master P. Hopkins, 100 points;,- 3. English Song (soprano), own selection. —Final: Mies Jeannette Briggs, 85 points, 1; Miss Rita Masson (Carterton), 83 points, 2; Misses Myra. Clcgg and Eileen Kimbell (Lower Hutt), 82 points, 3 (equal). ■ - Operatic or Dramatic Baas Solo, own election.—Final: Mr. G. H. Neel, 77 points, 1; Mr. Cecil Chambers, 76 points, 2. ■ .
Piano Solo (14 and under. 16), " Impromptu, No. 2" (Coleridge-Taylor).— lunal: Mies Vera Tolan, 67 points, 1; "Miss Jean Nichol, 65 points, 2; Miss Molly Evans (Petone), 63 points, 3.'
Recitation in Character, humorous (12 and under 16), own selection.—-Final. Miss Sinclair Breen, 96 .points, 1; Miss Mavis Windsor, 86 points, 2; M™s Zelma Carroll (Masterton), 84 pointy 3. Highly commended : Misses Elsie ■ Smith and Esme Evans (Cmristchurch);
'Character, Dance (9 and under 12).— Final: Miss Lorrain Welton, 85 points, 1; Miss Joyce Banks and Master James Lockwood, 83 points, 2 (equal); Miss Eileen Davies, 79 points, 3. Highly commended : Misses Ethel Miller and Jean Denham.
Clog Dance (12 and under 14). —Final: Miss Hazel Martin, 89 points, 1; Master Hernia Leo (Masterton), 88 points, 2; Miss Evelyn Wright, 87 points, 3. Highly commended: Misses Gladys Smythe, Gladys Needham. and Marjorie Vause. . Impromptu Debate, ladies and (or) pentlemon, "Should Women git on Juries?"— Final: Mr. James Davidson, 70 points, 1; Mr. R, M. Campbell, 60 points, 2.
Recitation,'ladies, "Cavalier's Song (Sir Walter Scott).—Final: Miss Mary Oooley, 96 points, 1; Miss .1. Wolf (.Pulmerston North), 81 points, 2 t ; M^iss Thelma Aitlcen, 00 points, 3. Miss Cooley, said tho judge, had given an almost perfect performance.
