PRICE OF WHEAT
In reply to a question on the point, the Minister o£ Agriculture (the Hon. W. Nosworthy) stated in the House of Representatives yesterday that the Government had not made a profit on' Australian wheat at the expense of the farmer. The difference in actual value between New Zealand and Australian wheat, be said, was about 2d per bushel. The sole idea of'the Government in handling the wheat had been to keep ■ the price to the public down to the lowest possible level. Wheat growers- -in New Zealand were ' receiving prices equivalent to those in Ans.t'ralia, and were getting full value. The production of wheat in the Dominion had fallen away during the past few years, and it was possible that there would be another drop through tho bad autumn and winter and the prospects of a bad spring. They would probably have to go to Australia again next season.
