UNITED STATES LINES' FLEET.

The United States Shipping Board has received several offers to purchase the vessels operated by the United States Linos. This fleet comprises some of the best known American ships, including the Leviathan, George Washing^**-., President P.oosevelt, President Harding, America, and Republic. A bid has been made by the firm o£ Messrs. Moore and M'Cormick. who, in addition to the liners, have offered to purchase a number of cargo steamers. It is reported also that an offer lias been made by the United American Liner,, which are controlled by the Ilarriman group and work in conjunction with the Hamburg Amerika Line. There was also a report that the International Mercantilo Marine was negotiating for the purchase of the vessels, but this has been denied by Mr. P. A. S. Franklin, the- president of that corporation. In any case, states the "Shipping ' World," provided that a reasonable amount is offered for the Bhips, they may be expected to pass from the ownership of the Uuited States Shipping Board to private interests within a brief period.
