Two-way radio communication with a Swiss station was established and maintained for an hour yesterday by an amateur, Mr. R. J. Patty, operating station 2AE. This is the first time twoway contact has been established between New Zealand and Switzerland', and'the sun was shining at'both ends..' The Swiss station is H9AD. . Tlie conditions liore were not good, as-atmos-pherics interfered with reception.'but at. the other end the signals were goixl, and no Tepcats were asked for. Mr. I'nUy used a two-tube receiver. The input" to his transmitter was only 45 watts, tiie same power as he has used in radio conversations • with French, English, Swedish, Chilian, Algerian, Mexican, and numerous other stations.
