SYDNEY, This Day. ■ A wireless message received in Sydney from Rabaul ' states that the Japanese steamer Sydney Maru, bound form Australia to Japan, is ashore at Mait Island, and in need of assistance. , Details are ' meagre. ' The vessel carries a number of Chinese passengers. It is known that the steamers Eudunda and Mataram are in the vicinity, and they will be able to give assistance.
