OUTLOOK UNPROMISING
Further heavy rain locally has advanced the total fall for the month 62 points during tho twenty-four hour period up to 9 a.m. to-day, making the amount to date' well above the average for the month ,of August. Conditions have not been quite so bad to-day as they were overnight, but they offer little hope of an improvement much nesded for weekend events. "The outlook for the weekend is not good," remarked Mr* D. C. Bates, Director of the_ Meteorological Office, to-day, in making a report upon the weather generally. • Cloudy and unsettled weather has continued, with rain in most parts of the country, arid snow has fallen on the higher levels in tho South Island. The barometer has been unsteady, and the winds variable, with northerlies, strong to gale, predominating. The forecast is for dull weather, misty and foggy in parts, with rain probable generally, and more snow in the South.
