TRENTHAM NOTES
It was fine at Trentham this morn; ing, but the rain of yesterday had softened the tracks again considerably. The ground staff have done wonderfully well with the tracks and enclosures, and the course proper shows little or no sign of the severe cutting up it receievd last month. There was not a great deal of work this morning. Master Peter, who to all intents and purposes is sound, is doing light work, while his stablemate Grand Knight is in good buckle, and is a much-improved horse in appearance. Kuhio was sprinted five • furlongs with Sasham, the pair finishing on terms in fair time. Kuhio has done all that has been asked of him, but he does not appeal as a Winter Cup horse. Glaive and Tresham were galloped in company, and they are coming on very quickly. Tanadees was given a' good gallop over seven furlongs. He is in excellent health.* With the exception of Merit, S. Eeid's horses are making good progress. The two-year-olds have been in physic, and have not done a great deal during the last day or two. Merit may stand a preparation, but her trainer is not hopeful. Anthem has been sent out for a twelve months'- spell. Mr. W. P. Russell, of Wellington, has been / appointed judge for the Egmont Racing Club for the present season.
