BUSES AND TRAMS
CONFERENCE, OF LOCAL BODIES.
An important conference is being held to-day at the Town Hall for the consideration of all 'aspects of the competition of the private bits with municipal transport systems. The meeting is not open to the P,ress. This conference was called at the instance of the Auckland City Council, and is the second held to consider ways and means for meeting the position. In all probability a deputation will wait upon the Prime Minister in regard to legislation necessary for the better control and co-ordination of transport services. The various local bodies' are represented as under:—Wellington City' Council, the Mayor (Mr. C. B. Norwood), in the chair, Councillors R. A. Wright and M. F. Luckie, Mr. M. Cable (general manager of the Tramway Department), and Mr. J. O'Shea. (City Solicitor). Christchurch Tramway Board: The Hon. John Barr and Mr. F. Thompson (manager). Auckland City Council: Mr. A. Thompson (chairman of Tramway Committee), Councillor T. Bloodworth, Mr. A. E. Ford (Tramways Manager), and Mr. J.- Stanton (City Solicitor). Dunedin City Council; Mr. J. S. Doudas (chairman of Tramways Committee), and Mr. W. H. M'Kenzie (Tramways Manager). Napier: Mr. J. P. Woodson (Tramway Engineer). InvercargUl: The Mayor (Mr. A. Bain). New Plymouth: The Mayor (Mr. F. E. Wilson). 'Timaru : TheMayor (Mr. G. J. Wallace). Wanganui: Councillor' G. Sprigein and Mr. A. E. Cheal (Tramways Manager). Christchurch Traffic Department: Mr. H. Macintosh (Chief Inspector). The ■ delegates were entertained at lunch by the Mayor.
