CONDITIONS IN NEW ZEALAND

A LETTER TO LABOUR CONFERENCE.

(OSITSD P»ESS ASSOCIATION—COPIEIQHT.)

(BEUTER'B TELEGRAM.)

LONDON, Ist August.

The British Commonwealth Labour Conference discussed the question of emigration to the Dominions. It examined a written statement regarding conditions in New Zealand, in which Mr. Nash, secretary of the Labour Party, pointed out that housing conditions in many large cities of New Zealand were disgraceful, and alluded to the acute periodical unemployment. The statement concludes : "The workers' general standard of living in New Zealand is higher than in Britain. The workers in New Zealand do not want to selfishly debar their fellow workers from overseas, but will fight any attempt to flood New Zealand with such an amount of surplus labour as will menace the conditions."

The conference was concluded. It was deoided that the next conference would be held in London in 1927.,
