BAD ROADS
\ 10 THI tDIIOE. Sir, —Please allow me to enter a protest about the disgraceful state of the road between Johnsonville to Pahautaunui. ; The road from Johnsonville to Tawa. Flat is nothing but a succession of pot holes. After Tawa Flat to Pororug, there is a fairly good stretch of road. After leaving Porirua one comes to that nightmare of roads until arrival at Paremata. Now, Sir, is there any need for this road to be like it is? Up till a couple of weeks ago this end was fairly good, but for some reason best known to themselves the ones in charge of affairs left the other end half finished, and started on this end, the consequence is that the whole road is now one big quagmire and bog-heap. How the authorities expects to make a road out of rotten rock and-clay they alone know. Why do not they use some decent metal ? It surely is not because they cannot get it as there is a quarry in the Ngahauranga Gorge, and another one at Paekakariki. Now, Sir, in addition to these quarries there are a number of slips of fairly good metal on this side of the Paekakariki Hill. As the Public Works Department has to clear these slips, why do they not put about three lorries and a gang of men on and cart this metal ' down to the Paremata road? These lorries will carry three yards each, and will do at least three trips each.a day. They WQuld soon clear the slips away and also go a good way towards helping the Paremata road. The road from Paremata to Pahautaiiui is another series of potholes. In conclusion, I would like to remind the Roads Board that this is the second year road taxes have been paid, and it'is time that the roads we(« well on their way to completion.—l am, ONE OF THE MOB. 21et July.
