SENIOR CRICKET

IMPROVEMENT WANTED

SPECIAL MEETING OF DELEGATES

CALLED,

An important move in the interests of local cricket is under *ay, and it will be brought to the notice of delegates for their consideration at a special general meeting of the Wellington .Cricket Association on Thursday of next week. A scheme has been drawn up by a sub-committee appointed to consider the question of the betterment of senior cricket, and this will be placed before the meeting, but the delegates assembled will also have the opportunity of suggesting any alternative schemes.

Of the sub-committee's work and recommendations a report has been made by Mr. P. B. Broad to the Wellington Cricket Association's executive, and this is to be presented to delegates in the following form:—

"After the Bub-committee had begun to consider the different courses open, it became apparent that without ascertaining the views of the clubs themselves, little progress could be made, since the member* of the mib-committee were divided in opinion, and necessarily felt that any reform desired could be most satisfactorily carried out only in agreement with the clubs affected. Two conferences were accordingly held, and the whole matter thoroughly discussed. At the second, conference the following clubs were represented:—Midland, Thorndon, V.M.C.A., Kilbirnie, Hutt, Petone, University, Old Boys, and Institute, while the Wellington ' Club representative, who was present at the first meeting, sent an apology for his unavoidable absence at the second.

"I am glad to be able to report that the conference of, clubs was able to arrive at an agreement pn all- points, and this was embodied in the following motion, which was unanimously carried : —• ■ That this meeting favours a trial of the scheme of dividing the senior championship into A and B sections, the A section to consist of the four leading senior teams this season, and • the B section to consist of the last four senior teams and Kilbirnie and University. In the event of any two 1 teams tieing_ this season the Management Committee shall decide which team shall go into the A section. At the end of each season's play, the team winning the competition in the B section shall automatically take the place of the bottom team in the A section. "In view of the unanimity shown "by the clubs, the sub-committee adopt* the motion as its recommendation U> your committee."
