SCOUT NOTES

On this .Thursday the Troop Corani'ttee of the Institute Troop will meet vt 8 p.m., and the troop will be open o parents for inspection from 7.15 p.m., when it is hoped that there will be a good attendance of the parents. There was » first-claw attendance of Scouts at the weekly parade of the Kilbirnie Troop, held last Thursday, during the evening ten boys passed the tenderfoot teats. New boys are joining up with the troop every parade night, the strength of the troop now being 20 boys and two officers.' The troop propose holding a.plain and fancy dress dance on the 30th July." ,■ ■ A meeting of the residents of Kaiwarra was held last Wednesday, when it was decided to form a Scout Troop. The following formed themselves into a Troop Committee:—Mrs. Payne, Miss Payne, Messrs. R: E. Flaws, George Flaws, Barnes, E. Cameron, H. Swift, and Mr. O'Reidy. The Commissioner (Sir Alfred Robin) spoke on the Scout movement at present operating in New Zealand. He stated that the Scout movement helped^ to train the young lads of to-day to become the loyal and true citizens of tomorrow. Mr. 0. Meacheri, the Scoutmaster of the troop, proposed to get going immediately, and with the help of half a dozen keen Scouters has commenced training for patrol leaders and seconds. The Troop Committee will hold its first meeting in the Kaiwarra Church on Monday, 6th July, at 8 p.m., and those interested in the forming of this troop are cordially invited to attend this, meeting, with any ideas or suggestions that they J may have.
After the work of the Lyall Bay, Scouts Troop last Tuesday week, a competition in organised Scouting games was held, when the spirit of friendly rivalry was very high. Leader Sando'i patron gained 16 points, and W. Marlow's patrol 14 points, with close runnera-up. The most popular game, of the evening was the crocodile race, which caused much excitement and amusement. The members'of the pioneering squad are making great progress, and the Scouts are looking forward !to passing the pioneer badge before the end of the year. Patrol Leaders J. Lockhead and E. Boilings -were recently awarded the. Ambulance Badge, and the members of the troop heartily congratulated these two Scouts for passing one of the King's Badges. After the recitation ,of the Scout Law and Promise the troop was dismissed at 8.45 p.m. The St. Cuthbert's Trooo continues to meet' every Monday night in the Church Hall, Palm Grove, Berhampore. A meeting of the Troop Committee was held last Monday night.week, when there was a good attendance of members. A good deal of general troop business was transacted. The following were elected to the following 1 positions:—Mr. Lambert, secretary; Mr. Edwards, treasurer; Mr. Lambert, delegate' to the local association. It -was proposed to hold a parents' night on Monday the 27th July, and the next meeting of the committee will be held on the 13th July, at the hall.
