REFORM LEAGUE
BRANCH FORMED IN WELLING-
TON CENTRAL.
"" There was a good attendance at the Taranaki Street Methodist Schoolroom last' night, when, on the motion of Mr. H.- Seaton (who presided), a branch. of the New . Zealand Political : Eeform League : was formed in the Wellington Central electorate.-':.:.. "". ,-■'■■■■'..' .■;■' ' ■'-'".
The objects .of the ' Eeform League said Mr. F. • B.: Mabin, .organiser for the Wellington" area, .were ; too well; known to necessitate recapitulation. "There would never be fixity in "politics," he- said, quoting a sayings of Napoleon's, "without; a teaching body with fixed, principles.";-"Do. not let us rest, on unsafe-and shifting foundations, always exposed to ; changes and .; disorder. We who'take a pride in our Dominion, which is part of the greatest Empire the world has ever seen, should riot let it: be said that, because of ourapathy other influences'have gbfc ahead, making for the disintegration of the Empire.; We must work and toil hard to keep in power a Government with sound principles." It was essential^ he added,' that "they get busy immediately. '„■■.■: /:"'.-■ , -■'' -.-.-■■ ;- ■'•.' .■■ :■"■■■„.':"■ .-■-:
Mr. W. H. Bennett said that, so far as his experience went there, had never been any organisation in Wellington Central on the part of the Beform candidate. It had always been Labour or Liberal. He himself had always found difficulty in getting anyone to take the chair at his meetings. Mr. B. A. Wright, M.P., said that ho was satisfied that a very good fight could be put up in Wellington Central. It must not be thought that Mr. P. Eraser's success would always be maintained. Since last election 2000 of his constituents had gone to other parts. One of the most formidable difficulties' with which a Eeform candidate ..would be faced would be that, he would not be allou'ed a hearing. "It is a scandalous thing," Mr: Wright said, "that the' Labour Party has an organised campaign of rowdyism in operation. They are always very quiet for Mr. Eraser's meetings."
The following officers were elected : President, Mr. C. JM'lntyrej vice-presi-dents; Messrs. G. Petherick; H. Seaton, Mrs. Carter ; secretary and treasurer, Mr. Ferguson. . ;
A large committee was formed.
