PICCADILLY BY NIGHT
"MOST VULGAR PLACE IN
EUROPE,"
(FROM OBn OWN CORRESPONDENT.) ' LONDON, 14th May. "Piccadilly Circus is, to me, the last place to put a beautiful work of art," said Sir Frank Dicksee, president of tho Royal Academy, at the London Society's dinner. He referred to the proposal to restore the statue of Eros to its old position after the completion of the tube station alterations. "I have'declined to take part in the agitation," he added. "At night Piccadilly Circus is without doubt the most vulgar place' in Europe. Tho hideous illuminations all round that place are most degrading.'l would like the statue to go to some place where it could function as a fountain. There are places in some of the parks which it would adorn."
