(FROM OOR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) NELSON, 4th May. The annual meeting of the Licensing Committee was held on Tuesday. Present: Messrs. T. M. Maunsell, S.M.; "(chairman), J. A. Stringer, T. Pettit, J. Bartlett, E. E. Trask, and W. D. Harkness. Several transfers were, granted. The police reported that repairs to the lurf _-Hotel (Stoke), as recommended by the Health Inspector* had not been c:u* ned out. The Health Inspector said the old stable on. the premises ' should be removed, aa it was an eyesore. Mr Moynagh, on behalf of ,the applicantsaid most of the matters were being attended to. It was resolved that the application be adjourned for a fortnight, vi order to give an opportunity for tha building to be removed. All renewals were granted, except one. In regard to the Bush Tavern, the application was "adjourned for a fortnight pending certain repairs being carried out. At a recent meeting of the Stoke Pro^ gressive Association, a deputation." from the Tahunanui Town Board stated that Pahunahui would be williiig to join with Stoke in a water scheme, and was informed that this question would have to be dealt with by the ratepayers of Stoke. It was stated that the flow of the stream from- which a supply was availablii was measured by the county engineer in the driest part of the summer of 1923-1921, and was put down at 200,000 gallons ;i day. Beckoning at the same rate of consumption as Nelson, this would be sufficient for 6000 people. It was resolved that, owing Id the county engineer being too busy^ an outside "report on the cost of a scheme be obtained, Messrs. Macmahon and Gilbert being appointed a committee to obtain the information. A handsome silver challenge cup has been presented by the Hon. W. W..Snod-gi-ass 'for competition- among the Biigbv" bantam footbnll teams for the Nelson district. - AU'apple crops are now gathered. The weather was ideal during the whole picking season. Many . ovciiardists are now ploughing. The pruning season is how at hand.:''.'-.-. .^Speaking at the Motueka Harbour' Board meeting last week, Mr. Haimnj* stated that he could give, rio more iiiformatiou in regard to the Moutere Estuary road than what had appeared ir> tKb papers. The .settlers had agreed to find £2500 towards the work, and tha matter had been, submitted to the Muriste'r of Public Works through Mr. B. P. Hudson, M.1.;, for consideration. It was resolved, that the board seek advice from the Minister of Marine as to what procedure is to be taken in refer r ence to their proposed contribution of £500 to tho Moutere Estuary road. This proposed, road will cross the tidal mudflats from Marere; and by shortening the distance to Port Motueka, and the township will be of great benefit to a largo number of settlers in the Ta'sman district. •.,."•',"., A movement is on foot at Richmond to build a Town Hall in that borough. An -enthusiastic. public' meeting .'was recently, held in connection with the project. The Mayor, Mr. G. Kidd, presided. Several schemes were discussed during the ,evening, arid' also, [ways and means. The general' policy was that it should be a municipal town hall, and a committee; consisting of Messrs. Ward, G. Wilkes, H. Croucheiy A. F.
