Massey, in reply to a deputation, stated that the Massey family was highly honoured by the request that he contest his father's seat, Franklin. Private affairs, however, absolutely forbade >his into politics at the present time.. Nothing that the deputation could, say would alter his decision, as he. had had to refuse the earnest request of his mother, who had said that if Franklin,, which, was the best electorate ever a man had, desired him his duty was to. keep the Massey name associated with it. M'Lennan said he regretted exceedingly that Mr. J. N. Massoy could not contest the Franklin seat. He had decided to allow his (Mr.. M'Lennan's) name togo before the selection committee. Mr. M'Lennan is a resident of Papakura, residing on the farm where he was born. \He has held office on a number, of local bodies and agricultural and industrial associations.

An endeavour is being made to have the mam roll for the Franklin electorate m the hands of the electors by Monday evening next, and it is understood that a few days will be given before the issue of the writ for the by-election. After the writ has been issued all registrations must cease. At present new enrolments are being accepted for the supplementary roll. . ■
