PETONE-HUTT GAS BOARD
Tlie monthly meeting of the Petone ami Lower Hutt Gas Lighting Board was held yesterday. Present: Mr. W. G. Lodder (chairman), and Messrs. J. Tiper. A. Anderson, W. T. Strand, W. Hay, W. Meldrum, and A. J. Hobbs. The Hult Valley Electric Power Board advised that it could not erect a service, line to the gas works free of cost, but would carry out the .work at actual cost (£80), plus 10 per cent. It was decided to ask the board to reconsider the matter. i Mr. H. S. Pillar stated his intention to erect 25 houses between Hautana street and PenrosD street, ami asked for the gas mains to be extended. It was decided to comply with the request. A petition was received from residents of High street, Petone, requesting that steps be taken to ensure an adequate supply of gas to the locality. The chairman stated that the whole question hinged on getting a new main through the land recently purchased by the Government and handed over to the Petone Borough Council. Later in the evening the chairman reported that the council had given permission for the mam to be. laid, and it was resolved to authorise the manager to ■ commence the laying of the main, to come out into Udy street East. The owner of a section on the Wilford Settlement inquired hovt soon the board intended to pipe Moron's Creek, ihe secretary reported that he had replied that the piping of the creek was really a matter for the Petone Borough ! Council. Tlis gasworks manager (Mr. Appleynrd) reported that 508 tons of coal had been carbonised, producing 6,393,700 c i'o t% 1 of,?as> llei"S :l" average make oE 1^,567 cubic feet per ton of "coal or an increased make over March, 1923. of 266,800 cuuio feet.
