WORLD'S SCULLING TITLE
TOM SAUL CHALLENGES MAJOR GOODSELL. 9
lorn Saul has lodged a deposit of £25 for a match with the world's champion, Major Goodsell, and in order to suit the title-holder wants the race to be decided within three months. Saul has tried hard to get a big match for some time, and his uncle advises that he is prepared to race Frank Scroope on the JRichmoud River, provided the stake is for £500. Sciroope is not likely to take the contest on for such big prizemoney, but will race for half that amount. Saul holds the Australian mile title, says the Sydney "Sun," and amongst those he defeated in that event was the present world's champion. Goodsell was not in the best of condition. It looks as though the two New South Welshmen will decide the next race on the Pnrramatta River. The challenger is 22 years o£ age, and rowed his first race (which he won) at Fredricton ono Anniversary Day, 1921. H e is a pupil of George Towns and a classy sculler. Eddie Larsen, writing from Broad--water, says that Jim Paddon is definite in his challenge for a match with Goodsell, and will go into training immediately the champion says the word. Billy M'Devitt has gone to his home town on the Huon River, Tasmania, for a trip.
