Mr. C. R. On- Walker, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court yesterday. Matthew Thomas was fined £1 for committing an indecent act in Sydney street on Saturday, evening. For drunkenness he was convicted and discharged. Default was fixed at 48 hours' imprisonment. ■ Norman Crowther, who used obscene language in Lambion quay on Saturday waa fined £3, in default 5 days' imprisonment. On the charge of striking another person he was ordered to come up for sentence, if, called upon within three months. ... : On the charge of committing an indecent act in Lambton quay on Saturday afternoon, JoEn Borwick was fined £4 in default seven days' imprisonment. For drunkenness, Patrick Byrne was fined ss, in default 24 hours' imprisonment. He was also ordered to pay 15s on the charge of damaging police' cell furniture. ■• y_A first'offending inebriate was convicted and discharged. Michael Cooney, a fourth offender for drunkenness, was remanded till to-mor-row. ''If you're. out of' town, then, v the case will be struck out," said the Magistrate. ■'. ' ! ■-■"•'■•'■ . George William Low, who failed to report as required by the terms of his probation, was sentenced to three months imprisonment. '■'He stopped me on the wharf yesterday and asked me for a feed," remarked Sub-Inspector Hollis of a labourer named Joseph Johnston (49), who made his fifth appearance for drunkenness, and answered a charge of being idle and aisorderly. As the man was under the influence.of liquor, he had him arrested. On the charge of drunkenness, the accused was sentenced to fourteen days' imprisonment. The other charge was struck out. John. Paton Hardy (20) was charged with drunkenness, with a breach of his prohibition order, with assault, and with' failing to comply with the terms of his probation. Mr. T. P. Mills, Probation Ofhcer, said the accused's lnoi^ier had collapsed ,ia a result of the charges, and if he was sent to gaol she might riot recover. On that, account ho suggested the youth be given' another chance. Iho Magistrate said: "It appears to me he is going straight to get a long tern of reformative treatment. Under the circumstances, I will give him another chance. ' On the drunkenness charge the accused was convicted and discharged, and for a breach of his prohibition order he was fined £1, in default three days imprisonment. On the charge of assault he was fined £4 and ordered tr> pay the amount at. the rate of 10s a week, and on the charge of breaking his probation his present term of throe years' probation was extended for twelve months. .^edrgc Page (40) and James Sweeney (47), charged with fighting in Courtenay place,, were cacli lined £2, iii default 48 hours' 'imprisonment.
