SH'OULI> DR. M'EACHERN BE 'ASKED TO REPORT? '
IM TBUOBAPH._. S |'ECIAI TO. Tflß . POST.I
_ . ■: •:■ •■' AUCKLAND, This Day Kff erring to the ; suggestion that Dr. M kachern,. of Canada, should be asked to report-on the New Zealand hospital administration and equipment, Mr Carrick ■ Rpbertsorf, a leading Auckland surgeon, says: "'lt seems a great pity that a man of such wide experience should, be allowed to pass by without being asked to report on our hospitals. However perfect they may be, it is probable they can be made more perfect. Although there is no desire to Americanise the hospitals, there, can be- no doubt that-during the last ten years, partly owing to the appointment of such men as Dr. M'Eachern as hospital inspectors, and partly to the amount of money they have to spend, many hospitals in America are splendid examples of what such institutions should be.. If the Government refuses this unique opportunity it would almost appear,as if it were afraid of an adverse report on what it has declared to be perfect. I think the JSew Zealand hospitals are good, but there is nothing so good that it cannot be improved, and it is hard to understand why we should not have the benefit, of Dr. M'Eachern's experience, it is not enough to give him a free railway pass; the Government should sponsor his visit, give him a proper standing and make his report an 'official matter.. New Zealand wants his report on hospitals,"..and any ideas he may advance for their betterment."
