A letter was received from George Modrich (Auckland), who placed his claim before the council to be officially recognised as the heavyweight boxing champion of New Zealand. The corres" pondent pointed .out that Tom Heeney, the former holder of the title, being out of New Zealand, had forfeited the title. Modrich said he defeated O'Sullivan in Auckland In July .last, and as he was the 'last opponent to defeat the former champion he should like the council to consider his application to be recognised as the logical claimant to the championship. Souter pointed out that Young was the last fighter to meet Heeney for the title at Tokomaru Bay in February, 1923. . The council decided to refer the matter to the Championship Title Committee.
