NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL MEETS.

A meeting of the New Zealand Boxing Council was held last evening. Dr. P. F. M'Evedy presided, and others present were: Messrs. E. Blundell, D. Hoggard, J. Simpson, E. A. Dawson, and G. P. Aldridge.

A letter was received from George Modrich (Auckland), who placed his claim before the council to be officially recognised as the heavyweight boxing champion of New Zealand. The corres" pondent pointed .out that Tom Heeney, the former holder of the title, being out of New Zealand, had forfeited the title. Modrich said he defeated O'Sullivan in Auckland In July .last, and as he was the 'last opponent to defeat the former champion he should like the council to consider his application to be recognised as the logical claimant to the championship. A letter was also received from Tom Souter (Wanganui), who put before the Em Young's claim to the New Zealand heavyweight boxing championship. Souter pointed out that Young was the last fighter to meet Heeney for the title at Tokomaru Bay in February, 1923. . The council decided to refer the matter to the Championship Title Committee.

Correspondence was received from the Whangarei Association dealing with the alleged persistent holding by. H. Hudson. Hudson wrote alleging in mitigation that he had been fouled. After consideration the council decided to disqualify Hudson for sis months from 16th December.
