NEWTOWN CLUB
There was a large attendance of members, their wives, lady friends, and visitors, including the president of the Dominion .Bowling Association (Mr. F. Meadowcroft), Mr. S. Potter (president of Bowling Centre), and Mr. Shallcrass (secretary to the centre), at the opening of the Newtown Bowling Green on' Saturday, notwithstanding the threatening •weather. The president (Mr. C. W. Martin), in declaring the season open, for 1924-25, extended a warm welcome to the ladies and visitors. He referred to the large number of improvements carried out during the recess, and tendered his thanks to all thosa who had helped "to bring the appointments up to modern requirements, and expressed the hope that members would have- a prosperous time during the year. Mr. ■ Aieadoweroffc congratulated, the club on the ./extensive:■ improvements made, and pointed to its prowess'in the game in past years, and trusted that members would have an enjoyable season. Mr. Potter alsop spoke, wishing the club every success. Mrs. Martin then' threw the silver kitty, kindly lent by Mr. Brackenridge, sen., for the occasion, and Mrs. Underwood presented Mrs. ' Martin with, a handsome bouquet on behalf of the ladies. < - : . Mr. Danks. the oldest surviving president, put the first bowl, and Mr. H. Sexton, a foundation member of the club, hoisted tho flag, each being accorded a hearty cheer. : Afternoon tea was dispensed by the ladies, and Hooper's Orchestra provided . delightful music for the enjoyment of those present .• .
