As part of a scheme to raise funds for providing more playgrounds at the South We!liugt»i School a plain and fancy dress ball was held in the Bchool on Saturday evening. For the occasion the committee wcrrked hard, and tho result of their efforts was highly nfttwftwtory, The attendance was well ovav 200, and all present spent a most enjayobls time, Tho dresses and Eanoy eoatumes were a special attraction, wid the ta«k of the judges (Mr. and Mr*, A, A, George) hi deciding the piae-winneri was by no means easy. rd*wi ws« awarded tv follow :—Most origins! dreis (ladles), Mrs, Mollison ("The Beekatalr); special prize {donated by Mr, and Mrs. George), Mrs, Anderson ("Th« Washerwoman"). Best dress (ladies), Mrs, Otu-isteuson ("Rule Britannia") j special pvi»e (donated by Mr, and Mr», George), Mrs. Wilion ( ltHar«n Lady"), Most original dress (men), Mr. Own ("The Coster"). Beat drew (men), Mr. Elton ("The Sheik ), Special dress was worn by the members of. the committee, the ladies having grey frocks with pink trimmingi.-mid the men being distinguished by similar colours (grey aprons and pink caps). In addition te the muaio supplied by Mis. Harman's orohegtra, ft song was contributed by Mn Jackson, For dancing Mr. 8, Munn was M.U.. and the supper arrangements wera in the capable hands of the members of the committee who ara well pleased with the financial result of the ball. They are now turning their at. tention to other ways and means of further building up the fund.
