POVERY BAY WIN LADY CARROLL SHIELD. (BI TELEGRAPH.—PHESS ASSOCIATION.) * GISBORNE, 27th September. The ladies' hockey tournament for the Lady Carroll Shield was brought to a conclusion to-day, with the meeting of the two leaders, Ruahine (Dannevirke) and Poverty Bay A. The weather was fine and there was a largo attendance. Tho game was very keenly contested throughout, and the score, 3 goals to 2 in favour of Poverty Bay, represents the difference between the teams. In the first spell the homo team scored three goals, which were obtained by Misses Hill (2) and Flauchelle. In the second spell the play was almost continuously in the Poverty Bay circle, but the shooting of the visitors was weak. Miss M'Dowell and Mrs. Hopi scored for Ruahino: After the game the shield was presented to the winners by the Mayor (Mr. Ci Wildish), and Lacfy Carroll congratulated both the winners and the losers.
