Tho semi-finals of the Wellington provincial amateur billiards championship' were played' last evening. Between Freeman (Returned Soldiers' Club) and Duncan (Working Men's Club) there was a very close contest. Duncan led until points (500) were nearly reached. When his score stood at 283 'Freeman's total was 211. Alter that Duncan made little headway, and Freeman, finishing well, ran lo points when Duncan was 287. Best breaks : Freeman, 23. 25, 33; Duncan, 20, 31. Savago (Working Men's Club) had a comfortable win over Griffiths (G.P.O. Pastimes), the final scores being : Savage 300, Griffiths 150. Best breaks : Savage. 21, 24, 22, 24, 39. The final of 500 up will be played on Monday evening between Savago and Freeman. An interesting game of billiards was played in 11. Murphy's rooms on Thursday between H. Shanks, last year's provincial champion, and D. Dunn. Early in the game' Dunn' gained a bi" lead, and this he held at" the 600 mark, although Shanks had previously drawn level. When Dunn was 619 and Shanks 414, tho latter improved, and a fine break of 106 made the scores read • Dunn 619, Shanks 560. Shanks added a break of 62, and took the lead. Close and tight play followed. Shanks finally finning by 750 to 742.
