In the return match against' AVest Australia, the partnership of Gilligan nnd Tate was most useful to the Etm-lish-men, and ended when the pair " had scored 127 between them. Tate was content to go along slowly, while Gilligan did the scoring. The latter commenced in a patchy manner, but afterwards made many beautiful drives The batting generally was not impressive, the early batsmen showing far too much caution.
